Tai Kok Tsui’s rich history and dynamic evolution can be seen as a series of interconnected events and experiences, each thread woven together to form the district’s unique identity and ever-evolving urban fabric. The district’s vitality stems from the constant flow of people, goods, and ideas, which have fluctuated throughout history, shaping the city’s pulse and character. We will use the metaphor of weaving these threads to create a dynamic and engaging artwork that reflects the spirit of the district, incorporating these threads into our design.
Drawing inspiration from the key words extracted from Tai Kok Tsui's rich history and the guiding principle of "Weaving Flow," this design concept employs a layered approach by using colored strings to create a dynamic and evocative installation.
A grid of dots, overlaid on both the building elevation and the canopy, symbolizes the interconnectedness of historical events that have shaped Tai Kok Tsui. Curved steel frames, anchored to the wall, trace the evolving profile of the waterfront.
A layer of fabric lines, suspended between the top and bottom of these steel frames, creates a dynamic interplay, with the points of intersection capturing the fluidity of urban change and the dynamic flow of Tai Kok Tsui. This fabric, perhaps incorporating recycled materials, not only adds a visual layer but also references the district's past industrial heritage.
The use of colored lines within this woven structure represents the diverse communities that make up Tai Kok Tsui. The overall visual effect is dynamic and ever-changing, with the perception of the artwork shifting depending on the viewer's perspective and vantage point along the street.
